WHY DO ARCHITECTS CHARGE WHAT THEY DO?
TAG DESIGN has over 15 years of industry experience across it’s senior members; and with that comes a lot of school fees, knowledge, experiences, sound technical advice and IP. Most architects also study for 5 to 7 years (just like your doctor does); and with that comes the ability to ensure that you as a client have the correct insurance cover, a licensed and registered architect, as well as a seasoned designer who is going to create your dream. Good design is money well spent- you’re going to be living there for the next 20 years. Your building investment is probably going to be one of your most costly investments to date- so why would you not want to pay the correct fees for the most appropriately qualified professional to manage that investment process for you. Amortise those fees over your entire project period (say 2 to 3 years)- and it makes a lot more sense.
HOW ARE ARCHITECTURAL FEES CALCULATED?
Fees are gazetted and work on a sliding scale according to the total construction budget of the project; but you can kind of work around 9 to 12% of your construction cost.
We are happy to tailor a quotation for you. Quotations fluctuate according to complexity of the project as well.
HOW IS THE PROVISIONAL BUDGET OF MY PROJECT CALCULATED?
We tend to put a basic area schedule together in order to give us an idea of “how big” the project is going to be. We then apply industry average rates to the areas. These rates are specific to the project typology; the complexity and the level of finishes required.
For your project at hand we put a project threshold in place together with yourselves.
Always remember that this is only a provisional budget and fees are always revisited once the budget is finalised. So both budget and fees can fluctuate slightly. We can also rework this is you have a specific budget in mind- and update our fee proposal accordingly.
